CANADA'S 150TH BIRTHDAY LOGOS TESTED AHEAD OF 2017 ANNIVERSARY
The federal government is already testing logos for the country's 150th birthday bash, according to a report prepared for the Department of Canadian Heritage. The report says Canadians want a symbol that reflects pride, celebration, unity, youth and multiculturalism to brand the country’s upcoming birthday.It's still a few years away, but the government is preparing the visual identity for the promotion and advertising campaign for 2017 events. The results were released from focus group testing. The research project, carried out by TNS Canadian Facts Inc. at a cost of about $40,000, tested groups in Montreal, Mississauga, Ont., and Chilliwack, B.C. and included a balance of genders, household incomes and ethnic origins. None of the concepts emerged as a clear winner, according to the report. But certain features were consistently cited as optimal for the visual identity, including symbols of celebration and diversity.
This one was praised for its modern, clean design, but some didn't like the logo's colour because they thought it symbolized the U.S. They also thought it looked a bit too much like a hockey puck.
Many people felt the shield symbolized strength, security and pride. Others thought it implied aggression and militarism.
This simple red and white maple leaf got thumbs up for being clearly identifiable as Canadian, and for hitting on nostalgia for hockey's 1972 Team Canada. But it was also criticized for being bland and not very modern.
These were praised for capturing a mood of celebration, but some didn't like the design because it reminded them of Disneyland or Canada's Wonderland.
Some like the fact that the maple leaves represent the 13 provinces and territories and symbolize unity. But others found them too old-fashioned, bland and cluttered.

APPLE STORES AROUND THE WORLD HAVE COLORED THE LOGO IN RED
"We celebrate December 1ST , World AIDS Day, by colouring our logo in red. Together we can achieve a generation free of AIDS. " said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO on tweeter. Apple has been in partnership with Product RED lead singer Bono of Irish band U2 in Dublin, for many years. Last month Jony Ive collaborated with designer Marc Newson in laying out and sale at auction of large variety of products, which in the end brought a charitable fund of 13 million dollars.
THE CONTROVERSY OVER AMERICAN INDIAN MASCOTS, LOGOS, AND NICKNAMES IN SCHOOL-RELATED EVENTS
Every school year, school officials face the reality and challenge of teaching different children in a multicultural society. Multicultural education requires educators to examine different and sensitive cultural topics. This involves looking at the contemporary and historical events from various perspectives and not from a single perspective. Educators have the responsibility to eliminate racism from school. Thus they will not ignore the problems of cross-cultural, but they turn into educational topics. Today such a controversial topic is the use of mascot, logos and Americans nicknames of Indian origin in events related to the school. Proponents of such logos and mascots state that such persons, Indo-American, honours, embodying traditions, sharing the cultural identity and heightening the pleasure of sport. However the effigies engenders racial stereotypes, as well as the historical oppression and fraudulent. Many of the non-Indian Americans can be culturally uninformed about certain symbols used by indo-American cheerleader’s teams and sport fans that are very respected or even sacred in many tribal communities indo-American.
BOP DESIGN RELEASES “BEST AND WORST” OF NFL TEAM LOGOS
With football season in full swing, Bop Design shared the firm’s top five best and worst National Football League (NFL) team logos. Compiled and critiqued by Bop Design’s Creative Principal Kara Jensen, the list applauds the effective logo designs of some and the visually lacking of others.
1) St. Louis Rams – The logo exudes power and aggression, with exaggerated ram horns as the centrepiece of the eye-catching design.
2) New England Patriots – The Patriot logo accomplishes a clean, yet powerful design for a team name that represents the founding of the U.S.
3) Dallas Cowboys – “You couldn’t possibly be more iconic and minimal,” says Jensen. Instead of attempting to illustrate an actual cowboy, the logo is dialled down to its most simple and representative form.
4) Seattle Seahawks - Seahawk icon is sleek, contemporary, and packs a bold colour palette. 5) San Diego Chargers – While the name may be nondescript, it overcomes with a simple and electric icon. “The NFL is full of logos representing animals and inanimate objects, so the bolt represents energy, power, something intangible,” says Jensen.
